Submission Art by Juxtapoz Readers
When Juxtapoz takes NYC by storm, it's all about Fuse Gallery, tucked away in the Lower East Side's Lit Lounge. This unpretentious favorite haunt of rockers and artists alike has hosted exhibitions by the cream of the underground crop, including Axel, HR Giger, Bauhaus's David J, and, in fall 2005, Juxtapoz readers. One of the original missions of the magazine was to provide exposeure for artists who might not be covered by more mainstream publications. True to form, the Submission show at Fusepart two of a similar venture in San Francisco in August 2004gave Juxtapoz' loyal followers on the East Coast a chance to prove themselves to the public. The culmination of several art parties at Lit at which guests were encouraged to contribute examples of their creative potential, Submission was a two-week-long display of the strongest offerings from the collection, and the paintings, drawings and photos, hand-picked by the Juxtapoz editors, reflected the magazines' ongoing commitment to discovering trendsetting art before it actually becomes trendy.
